unite leadership, develop cultures of leadership and encourage others to grow and prosper in our industry.
There is evidence of Mike’s influence on his local chapter
(Triad AHU), his state chapter (NCAHU) and nationally. He
continues to impact our industry by using his leadership skills to
support the efforts to take NAHU’s Education Foundation to new
levels. Good things always happen when Mike is part of a team!
Mike’s heart is not limited to giving of his time. He is among
the first to dig into his pockets to support a needed cause. He gives
consistently to every cause he supports.
A brief visit with Mike and his family further validates the
character of this great man. His family is a reflection of him and
his influence. His wife, Carol, is amazing in her own right.
Together, they have formed a team that sets a standard of love and
caring for their family and others in the community. Their two
sons, Andrew and Kevin, will be great contributors to society,
much due to the influence of the models their parents have been.
I could list so many accomplishments that I have witnessed
that have been favorably influenced by Mike Matznick. You
would be amazed. But the most endearing part of Mike’s attitude
and one of the characteristics that make him so deserving of this
honor is that Mike never seeks recognition for any of his deeds. He
is always quick to pass praise to others, but never seeks to draw attention to himself.
Mike ‘Makes a Difference’ not only for NAHU—he makes a
difference for mankind!

Mike merged his agency into my company almost four years
ago. We have been business partners ever since. Mike is clearly one
of the most professional and knowledgeable individuals in this industry. He takes personal pride in bringing value to his clients and
ensuring that they have the most up-to-date information about
changes in the regulations that govern the employee benefits arena.
Some of the things that come to mind when you think of Mike are:
ethical, morals, values and principles. I could think of no one more
deserving of the Harold R. Gordon Award than Mike Matznick.

Mike has been a great friend as well as someone who you could
always reach out to for support and advice since I became involved
in NAHU. When I was the president for the Triad AHU, Mike was
the NAHU president and Bynum Tuttle was the president-elect. It
was pretty cool that when these two were at our meetings, they had
to listen to me, and they were always at the local meetings. This always sent a great message to our local members and, yes, they both
are still active today at the local level.

My dad has always been someone who reaches out to others. I
never really noticed it until recently, as I have grown up and matured more. I began to notice just how selfLESS he is. He always
